Have you ever stopped to ask yourself this important question? Have you ever wondered why Jesus stops on the Mt. of Olives just outside of Bethpage (3 miles short of His goal) to order his disciples to go and retrieve a donkey? Have you ever wondered why this action takes place since the pilgrims were supposed to walk to the passover festival? And again, have you wondered why on one hand, the crowd shouts, Hosanna, then shouts, “He is a prophet from Nazareth of Galilee, then three days later they shout, “Crucify Him?” Why do our children bring palm branches into the church and wave them around on Palm Sunday? What does this passage mean?
I would like to hear your answers on this issue and then I will respond. The answers are directly out of the Old Tastement…yes that first half of the book that few read and even fewer call “relevant.” The answers to these questions do not mesh with the popular notion of Jesus as a hippie who loves and does nothing in violence.
